Sweet Melody

Sweet Melody operates out of a flat in Behala Chowrasta. It’s Flat No. A-2 in the Austami building on Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road. If you know Kolkata, you know how busy the streets can get around here, but once you get inside the building, it’s a bit quieter. We’ve been here for a few years now, setting things up and getting used to the rhythm of the neighborhood. The flat isn’t very big, so we have to be careful about where we put everything. We have instruments and some equipment scattered around the rooms. Sometimes the neighbors hear us working, but nobody has complained much yet. We usually start the day with some tea and then get straight to whatever needs doing. Whether it’s tuning something or talking to someone who stopped by, the day goes by pretty fast. The pin code here is 700008, and we’re right in the middle of all the action in Behala. It's a local operation, mostly just family and a couple of friends helping out. We don't have any big signs or flashy lights outside, just the name on the door. It feels more like a home than an office, which is fine by us. People come over, we chat, and we get the work done. It’s a simple way to earn a living in this part of West Bengal. We try to stay organized but sometimes the piles of sheet music or cables get the better of us.
