Suparna Saha

My name is Suparna Saha and I stay over at 54/1, Sarsuna Main Road. This part of Kolkata, specifically the Chatterjeepara area in Behala, has a very distinct feel to it. It’s not like the city center with all the big glass buildings. Here, the roads are narrower and you see the same faces every single day. My workspace is right in the middle of it all. It’s a bit of an old structure, but it’s sturdy and has plenty of light coming through the front windows. I’ve lived in Sarsuna for a long time, so I’ve seen how much it has changed. It used to be much quieter, but now there are shops everywhere and the traffic on the main road never seems to stop. Even so, once you step inside my place, it feels much calmer. I usually have the radio playing softly while I work. I don't really bother with fancy decorations or anything. It's just a functional space where I can focus on what needs to be done. Sometimes the neighbors pop in to say hello or ask for help with something small, and I don't mind that at all. That’s just how it is in this part of the city. We look out for each other. I keep my hours regular, starting after my morning chores are finished and ending before the evening markets get too crowded to walk through.
