Suman Fashion is located on Bhagabati Chatterjee Street in the Belghoria area of Kolkata. It’s an old part of the city, and the street is usually quite narrow and busy with people and rickshaws. We operate out of 36/B, and if you step inside, the first thing you hear is the rhythmic sound of sewing machines. There are piles of fabric everywhere—cottons, silks, and synthetics in every color you can think of. We spend our days cutting patterns, stitching, and checking the finished garments for any loose threads. It’s a lot of manual work, and the room gets quite warm when all the machines have been running for a few hours. We have a small team of tailors and cutters who have been with us for years. We aren't a high-end boutique with a fancy storefront; we are more of a production unit where the real work happens. Sometimes the deliveries of new cloth are late because of the Kolkata traffic, which can throw off our whole schedule for the day. We just take it as it comes. Usually, we are working on large orders that need to be finished by a certain date, so there is always a bit of a rush. It’s a simple life of needles, thread, and fabric in a busy corner of the city. We just try to get the stitching right.
