Sikha Garments

Over at 75 Surya Sen Road in New Barrackpore, that is where you will find us. Sikha Garments is a local shop that serves the people living around here. The road out front is usually busy with people going to the market or heading home from the station. We have a small shop front that we try to keep looking decent. Inside, we have rows of clothes for everyone in the family. It is a family-run thing, so you will usually see one of us behind the counter. We do not have any fancy air conditioning, just the ceiling fans and the open door to catch a breeze. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to use emergency lights, which makes the shop feel a bit cozy in a weird way. We know the names of most of our regular customers. They stop by to see what is new or just to complain about the weather. We buy our stock from various wholesalers and try to pick things that folks in New Barrackpore would actually want to wear. It is not about being trendy; it is about having things that last. The floor is made of old tiles that have seen better days, and the shelves are a bit worn at the edges. But it is our place, and we are proud of it. We open up early and close late, especially during the festival seasons when everyone wants something new to wear. We keep a small radio playing in the corner.
