Shree Renuka Sugar Refinery

Down on Bhupen Roy Road in the Behala area of Kolkata, you’ll find us at Shree Renuka Sugar Refinery. This isn't a shop where people walk in off the street. It’s a workplace. We deal with sugar and everything that goes into making it ready for use. The building is old, like many things in this part of the city, but it serves its purpose. There is always a lot of activity with trucks coming in and out. It gets noisy and sometimes quite dusty, which is just how it is in this line of work. We have a crew that’s been here for years. They know the machines inside out. We don't have a big corporate team sitting in glass offices. Most of us are on the floor, making sure the process keeps moving. When something breaks, we fix it ourselves. It’s a hands-on environment. Sugar is a basic thing, but getting it right takes effort. We follow the standard procedures and don't take many shortcuts. The location in Behala is convenient for transport, though the traffic on the main road can be a nightmare in the afternoons. We just focus on our daily production targets and getting the bags loaded. It’s honest work. We don't talk much about visions or anything like that. We just show up, do the job, and go home when the shift is finished. It's a tough but fair business.
