Saheli Pan Bhandar

Saheli Pan Bhandar is right on Haldia Road in the Baidyanath Pur section of Bagnan. It is a small spot where people stop while they are traveling. I spend most of my time at the front counter making pan for the locals and travelers. We make sure the leaves are kept fresh and damp. Besides pan, we have a small fridge for cold drinks that makes a loud buzzing sound. It works well enough to keep the water cold in the summer. We also have jars of biscuits and different kinds of tobacco. The traffic on Haldia Road is very noisy with all the trucks going by towards Howrah. It gets a bit dusty outside, so we have a small bench in the shade for people to sit for a minute. My brother comes by in the afternoon to help out when I need to run errands. We don't have a lot of space, so everything is within arm's reach. It is a simple way to make a living. The regulars like to stay and chat about the local news while I prepare their orders. We use a lot of lime and supari every day. It is just a small stall that serves the community and the people passing through. We don't have big plans to change anything. We just like keeping the jars full and seeing the same faces every day.
