We are situated at 76 Cotton Street. If you know this area, you know how busy it gets with all the fabric traders and the trucks loading and unloading. Our building is old, and the stairs are quite narrow. Inside, we have rows of shelves stacked high with different materials. The air always smells a bit like raw cotton and old paper. We don't have air conditioning, so we just use the big pedestal fans to keep the air moving during the summer months. It's a loud place because everyone is always shouting over the noise of the traffic. We've been at this address for a long time. The floor is made of old stone that stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We spend the morning checking what came in the night before. There is a small chai stall just down the road that we visit a few times a day. We don't have a computer system that works perfectly, so we still write a lot of things down in ledgers. It’s a bit messy sometimes, with scraps of thread on the floor, but we sweep it up every evening. Most of the people who come here are looking for specific fabrics for their own shops. We just keep our heads down and get the work done. It’s a simple life on a very busy street.
