Operating out of 499 Diamond Harbour Road in Behala means dealing with a lot of traffic and people all the time. Our shop, R X Medicine, sits right in the thick of it. It’s not a very big space, but we’ve managed to cram a lot of stock into the back room over the years. Some days the humidity makes the labels peel off the boxes, which is a real pain when you’re trying to do inventory. We spend a lot of time checking expiry dates and making sure the more popular stuff is right at the front. The locals in Behala are mostly regulars who’ve been coming to us for years. They usually just drop off their notes and wait outside because it gets cramped inside when more than three people are standing there. We try to stay organized, but sometimes things get a bit messy when a big delivery arrives at the same time a customer is asking a bunch of questions. It's just two of us working most shifts. We don't have a computer system that does everything for us, so there’s a lot of writing things down in ledgers. It’s honest work, even if the legs get tired by evening. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit, but it keeps the air moving at least. That’s pretty much life here at the shop on Diamond Harbour Road.
