Pacific International

Down here on Mahendra Banerjee Road in Rabindranagar, things stay pretty busy. Pacific International is based at 3/175, which is an easy spot to find if you know the landmark. We deal with a lot of international trade and shipping. It means a lot of late-night emails because of the time differences. My desk is usually covered in shipping documents and customs forms. It’s not a quiet job. The phone rings a lot. We’re mostly talking to suppliers or checking where a container is stuck. Sometimes the port is backed up and we have to explain that to everyone. It’s frustrating but it's part of the trade. We have a small office team. We’ve worked together for a long time, so we know who handles what. The neighborhood is a bit crowded, so parking can be a nightmare if you arrive late. We don't have a big corporate lobby or anything like that. It’s just an office where work gets done. We handle different types of goods, shifting from one thing to another based on what’s needed. You have to be flexible. One day it’s textiles, the next it might be something else entirely. We just keep the wheels turning. It’s a lot of coordination across borders. We just focus on making sure the crates get to where they need to go without too much trouble. Sometimes the internet goes slow right when we need to upload a manifest, which is a real pain, but we get it done eventually.
