Oster Engineering Works

Down at No. 17/2 on Bhattacharjee Para Lane, things stay pretty busy. Oster Engineering Works is a small shop, and you can usually hear the sound of metal being worked on before you even see the door. The lane itself is narrow, so we have to be careful when we’re moving materials in. It’s not a big factory by any means. It’s just a place where we get our hands dirty every day. There’s grease on the walls and the smell of cutting oil is always in the air. We’ve got a few old machines that have been with us for years, and they still work better than some of the newer stuff. Most of our work is local, just fixing things or making parts that people need for their own shops. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. If you come by, you’ll probably find us at the back near the lathes. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit outside for a bit, but mostly we’re inside working through the list of jobs. It’s a bit messy, with metal shavings on the floor and tools scattered around, but we know where everything is. We don’t bother with much else besides the engineering part. It’s just a regular local workshop where the work is steady and the days are long. Most of our tools have been here as long as the building has.
