N. C. Dutta & Sons is at No. 27, Rabindra Sarani, right near Chittaranjan Avenue. This part of the city is always packed with people. The noise from the street never really stops. Our building is very old with high ceilings. We’ve been here for many years. It is a family business that has been passed down through generations. My father worked at these same counters. We don't have computers for everything. We still use ledger books for a lot of our accounts. The wooden furniture is worn down from years of use. It has a lot of history. We don't try to be like the big modern stores. We like the traditional way of doing things. Our customers are mostly regulars who have been coming to us for decades. Sometimes the shelves get a bit dusty and disorganized. We don't have a website or do any social media. If you want to see what we have you just have to come to the shop. It’s a bit dark inside but it stays cool even in the summer heat. If you walk down from Chittaranjan Avenue you will see us. We open the shutters early every single day. It’s a simple way of living and we don't feel the need to change anything. We just keep doing what we’ve always done at No. 27.
