Mukund Ice

Mukund Ice is tucked away on Palm Avenue at Plot No 13/3/1. We are pretty close to the Ice Skating Rink here in Ballygunge. It’s a nice part of town, but our place is very straightforward. We deal with ice, so the main thing we worry about is keeping everything frozen and making sure the water supply is good. The floor is usually wet from the blocks or the melting frost, so we all wear rubber boots while we work. It’s not a fancy office at all. It’s more of a functional space where we get things done. We have trucks coming in early in the morning to load up before the traffic gets bad in the city. The noise of the machinery is always in the background. Sometimes people stop by asking for small amounts of ice for a party or a wedding nearby. We try to help them out if we have enough stock. The neighbors know us well by now since we've been at this address for years. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting and moving heavy stuff. We don't have a big marketing department or anything. We just answer the phone and tell people what we have available. In the summer, it gets incredibly busy and we’re all pretty tired by the end of the day. But that's just how this business is and we keep going until the work is finished.
