Our office is located at 20/5B Armenian Street, right in the heart of Kolkata. Mahendra Sethia & Co has been around this part of town for a long time. Armenian Street is a historic place, very crowded and full of energy. Being here means we are close to a lot of other businesses, which is handy. We are chartered accountants, so we spend the day working through financial statements and filing papers with the government. The office itself is pretty basic. We have desks, chairs, and enough filing cabinets to fill a small library. It gets a bit hot in the afternoons, but we have fans going. There is always the sound of traffic and people outside. It’s just the way it is in this part of West Bengal. We don’t do much in the way of advertising. Most of our work comes from people who have known us for years. We handle things like audits and income tax returns. It’s steady, honest work. We don’t have any fancy mission statements or corporate values posted on the wall. We just show up in the morning, drink some tea, and get to work on whatever folders are on the desk. Sometimes we stay late when it's March, but otherwise, we keep a pretty regular routine. It’s a no-nonsense kind of place where the work speaks for itself. We just do our best to keep the books clean and the filings accurate.
