M Jain & Associates

I am part of M Jain & Associates. Our office is at 185 B, Raja Dinendra Street, right in the Shyambazar area. If you know Kolkata, you know Shyambazar is always moving. The trams, the buses, the people—it never really stops. Our building is an old one, 700004. It has those big wooden doors and a staircase that’s seen a lot of feet over the decades. Inside, the rooms are quite large with high ceilings. It’s a bit dusty because of all the traffic outside, but we clean it as best we can. We have shelves lining the walls, filled with thick ledgers and files. It smells a bit like old paper in here. We spend our days sitting at these heavy desks, going through whatever needs our attention. There is a tea shop downstairs that does a great ginger tea, and we usually get a round sent up twice a day. The afternoon sun hits the balcony outside the main room, and sometimes I go out there just to see the street life for a minute. It’s a lot of work keeping things running, but we’ve been here so long it feels natural. We don't have a fancy website or a big marketing plan. People just know us from being in the neighborhood for so long. It's a solid, reliable place to spend the day. We just keep our heads down and get on with it.
