L&T in Kolkata operates out of a ground floor flat in Asoke Garh. It’s Flat A at number 238. Being on the ground floor is quite nice because we don’t have to deal with stairs or elevators. Asoke Garh is a typical Kolkata neighborhood, a bit tucked away but still connected. The building is older, and the office inside is very functional. We have a lot of files because we keep records for everything. It’s not a big corporate setup. It feels more like a study or a small workshop. During the monsoon, we have to keep an eye on the dampness, but that’s just how it is in this city. We don’t have any marketing people or slick brochures here. If you walk in, you’ll just see us working at our desks. We drink a lot of tea while we go through our tasks. The pace can be fast some days and slow on others, depending on what projects are landing on our desks. We’ve been at this Asoke Garh address for quite a while now. The neighbors know us, and it feels like we belong in the community. It’s a practical place to work from. We just do our bit and go home at the end of the day. No big speeches or complicated goals, just the work that’s right in front of us.
