Karit Karma

Our office is located at 8/85 in Bijoygarh, very close to Jadavpur University. We are right beside the UCO Bank there, which is a good landmark because everyone in the area knows it. Karit Karma is a place where we do a bit of everything for the local community. People often wander in from the university area or the nearby houses to ask for help with different things. The space is simple with just a few tables and some plastic chairs for visitors. We have stacks of files and some old cupboards where we keep our records. It’s not the quietest office since the street outside is always busy with rickshaws and students walking to class. We usually have the fans going full speed to keep the air moving. It’s a very informal setup; we don’t have dress codes or strict office hours in the way big companies do. We just make sure someone is here during the day to answer questions. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven't gotten around to that yet. We focus more on the people who come through the door than how the place looks. It is a bit messy and crowded at times, but it’s a honest place where we just try to be useful to our neighbors.
