K. I. Engineering

Netaji Subhas Road is always a bit of a mess with all the people and the vehicles trying to squeeze through. Our place, K. I. Engineering, is right at number 20. It is an old building, the kind you see all over this part of town with thick walls and high ceilings that stay surprisingly cool even when it’s boiling outside. We don't have a big shiny lobby or anything like that. You just walk in and find us working. There is usually a pile of metal parts or some blueprints spread out on the big wooden table in the back room. The light isn't the best in the hallway, so we have to keep the lamps on all day. Most of us have been coming here for years, so we know exactly which floorboard creaks when you walk toward the files. It’s noisy outside with the horns and the shouting from the market nearby, but inside we just focus on the engineering stuff we have to finish. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit and we just sit and talk until it comes back on. It’s not a corporate setup with fancy slogans on the walls. It is just a shop where work happens every single day from Monday to Saturday. We know the tea seller downstairs by name and he knows exactly how we like our chai while we go over the day's plans.
