Lokenath Engineering Works

If you walk down Basant Lal Saha Road in Kolkata, you’ll find us at number 88. We are up on the second floor of the building. It’s not the easiest place to carry heavy metal parts up, but we’ve managed for quite a while now. Lokenath Engineering Works isn't a massive factory, it's more of a focused workspace where we handle whatever engineering job comes through the door. The traffic outside is always loud, and you can hear the street vendors and the horns from the balcony. Kolkata gets really humid, so the air inside is usually thick, but we get used to it after a few hours of work. We have a few old machines that have been with us for years, and they still run better than some of the newer ones we’ve seen. Most days involve a lot of grease and measuring things twice to be sure. We don't spend much time on the computer unless we absolutely have to for some billing. Most of the real work happens at the benches with our tools. We’ve known the neighbors for a long time, and we often share news over lunch or a quick tea break. Sometimes things go slow when parts are hard to find, but we always find a way to fix what’s broken. It's just a bunch of us working with our hands. If you come by, you’ll see us in our work clothes, probably trying to get a stubborn bolt loose. It's just a regular shop.
