If you come to 23c Asutosh Choudhury Avenue and head up to the second floor, that’s where you’ll find J. J. Imports & Exports. We’ve been in Kolkata for a long time and this office has become our second home. It’s not a very big space, but it’s enough for the handful of us who work here. We spend our time looking at prices and talking to people at the port. There’s a lot of back and forth involved in what we do, and it can be frustrating when things get delayed, but we’re used to it by now. The office has big windows, but they look out onto another building, so we don't get much of a view. We have a lot of old ledgers and files because we still like to keep physical copies of everything. The air conditioner is a bit loud, but it beats the Kolkata heat in the summer. We don’t do much advertising or marketing. Most people find us through word of mouth or because they’ve worked with us before. We just try to be honest and get the job done without any unnecessary drama. Sometimes we stay late when a shipment is coming in, but usually, we’re out the door by six. It’s a practical, no-nonsense kind of place. We just want to keep the business running smoothly and take care of the people who rely on us.
