We are tucked away on the first floor of 12 Pollock Street, right in the middle of Kolkata. If you know Room 11, that’s where you’ll find us. It’s an old part of town, very busy and loud, which is just how Kolkata is. Being an export-import business, we spend a lot of time on the phone or handling documents. The office isn't very big, but we fit everyone in. There’s always paper everywhere because of the shipping records and customs stuff. We’ve been here for a while, and the stairs are a bit worn down from all the foot traffic. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find fancy furniture or a reception desk with flowers. We just have our desks, some old files, and a lot of work to get through. Moving goods across borders sounds more exciting than it actually is; mostly it’s just making sure the numbers match up and the containers are where they should be. We deal with all sorts of items, and every day brings a different kind of headache or success. The tea man comes by twice a day, which is the highlight for most of us. We just keep our heads down and try to stay on top of the export cycles. It’s a typical city office life, crowded and noisy, but we get the job done. Sometimes the internet is slow, and we all just wait for it to come back. We just focus on getting the shipments out on time.
