Indian Statistical Institute

This particular branch of the Indian Statistical Institute is tucked away in Sodepur, Kolkata. We are located at Nabarun Pally, Shibtala, which is a very local, residential-feeling neighborhood. The office is actually care of Sukumar Datta at 105/A. It is not what you would expect for a big name like ISI. It is more of a quiet spot where we can focus on the numbers and the data without the constant noise of the main city center. Sodepur has its own rhythm, and it is a bit more relaxed than the middle of Kolkata, though the humidity is still just as thick. We spend a lot of time with spreadsheets and reports. It is a lot of quiet work. Sometimes neighbors walk by and peek in, probably wondering what all these people are doing with so many papers. The Shibtala area is pretty well-known locally, so we are not hard to find if you are from around here. We do not have a big cafeteria, so most of us bring our own lunch from home or find something simple from the shops nearby. It is a very basic setup, just desks, chairs, and some filing cabinets. But it works for the kind of statistical work we do. It is nice being in a place that feels more like a community than a cold office park. We have been here for a while and the location suits our needs perfectly.
