City & Guilds, London has an office here at 47 A Padmapukur Road in Kolkata. It’s an old neighborhood with a lot of character. The building we are in is tucked away a bit. Most days, we are busy with paperwork and talking to people about their exams or certificates. It’s a quiet sort of office, not like a big shop or anything. We have a lot of files stacked up on the desks. Sometimes it feels like we are drowning in paper, but we get through it. People call us up to ask about their results or how to sign up for things. We aren't the ones teaching the classes, we just handle the official side of things from the London connection. Kolkata can be very loud outside with the buses and the rickshaws, but inside it’s mostly just the sound of typing and the ceiling fan. We’ve been at this Padmapukur Road location for a long time. The tea stall around the corner is where we usually go when we need a break. It’s a small team here. We know each other’s families and what’s going on in the neighborhood. We don't have any big corporate slogans. We just help people get their qualifications sorted so they can go get jobs. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy from morning till evening and that is enough for us to do.
