We are over at 33, S.B Neogi Garden Lane here in Kolkata. Our office at Hindusthan Engineering & Industries Ltd, or Hei Ltd as some call it, is tucked away a bit. You have to look for Sudipta Ray Choudhuri’s place. It is a quiet enough lane compared to the main roads. West Bengal weather can get pretty humid in the summer so we keep the fans going all day. The office has desks piled with papers and some old filing cabinets that have been there forever. We don't worry much about how the furniture looks as long as it works. Most of the people working here have been around for years. We know the tea seller on the corner quite well. It is a local operation through and through. We don't have a website with moving pictures or anything like that. Just this physical location where we handle our engineering business. The 700036 zip code is home for us. Sometimes visitors get lost finding the garden lane but once you’ve been here once you remember the way. It is a practical space for practical work. No one wears ties unless there is a very big reason to. We just get on with things and try to be helpful when someone comes by the gate. The gate squeaks a little but we haven't fixed it yet. It’s just how things are at our spot on S.B Neogi Garden Lane. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
