Gunny Supply Co.

We have been based at 125, Cotton Street for a very long time now. It is not a fancy place by any means. If you walk in, you will probably see stacks of gunny bags piled up almost to the ceiling and a bit of dust in the air. That is just how a place like Gunny Supply Co. looks when it is busy. Usually, there are only a couple of us here to handle the orders and talk to the drivers who come by to pick things up. We do not have a fancy showroom or a big lobby with chairs. Most people who come to see us are looking for something specific to move their own goods. My father used to say that the smell of jute never leaves your clothes once you start working here, and he was right about that. The street outside is always loud with traffic and people shouting, but inside we just focus on the ledgers and the stock we have on hand. Sometimes the phone rings and we cannot get to it right away because we are in the back moving bales around. It is hard work and it gets hot in the afternoons, but we have stayed in this same spot while other shops have closed down. We do not do much in the way of talking ourselves up. We just provide the bags and the materials people need and try to get through the day.
