Alif Traders

You can find us on the ground floor of the Plaza Market, right on Govind Chand Dhar Lane. It is a narrow lane and it can be a bit of a squeeze when the delivery carts are coming through. Our shop at 7/A is filled with whatever we are trading at the time. There are stacks of boxes reaching up to the ceiling and not much room to move around if we have a big shipment in. We spend the day talking to suppliers and checking the quality of the goods that come through the door. It is a lot of manual work, moving things from one side of the room to the other and making sure the labels are correct. The market is always loud with people shouting and wheels rattling on the pavement. We don't have a fancy office upstairs; we stay right here on the ground floor where the action is. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty with all the cardboard, but that is part of the job. People come in and out all day, some just to say hello and others to talk about prices. We keep a ledger on the desk and a pen behind the ear. It is a basic way of doing business, but it has worked for us for a long time. We know the other traders in the lane, and we all just try to get through the busy hours together. It is a simple life in a crowded market.
