Getting International

Getting International is run out of Flat No. 9 in the Sukanta Apartment building at 144 Santoshpur Avenue. It is right in the heart of Kolkata 700075. Working from an apartment gives the whole thing a very different feel than a typical office block. It is a bit quieter, though you still hear the street noise from Santoshpur Avenue down below. We have set up our desks in the main rooms, and the kitchen is where we all end up meeting for breaks. It is a small team here. We handle a lot of things that involve people from different places, but we do it all from this flat. The elevator in the building can be a bit temperamental, so sometimes we just take the stairs. It is a lived-in space with heaps of files and old coffee mugs. We don't have a professional cleaning crew coming in every night; we just tidy up after ourselves. Most of our day is spent on the computer or the phone. People sometimes get confused finding the right flat, but once they are inside, it’s just a normal workspace. We aren't big on formalities. If someone stops by, we offer them a seat and a glass of water. It is just how we operate. It is a simple, honest setup in a busy part of the city. We stay here because it works for us.
