Lindsay Street is always a very busy place, and that is where you can find us at shop number 73. If you know this part of Kolkata, you know how crowded the sidewalks get, especially when there is a festival coming up. Our shop is in one of the older buildings, so it has a certain character, though the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint. We open the shutters early because the morning crowd is usually looking for things before the heat gets too bad. Kolkata is very humid, so we keep our old ceiling fans running on high all day long. Sometimes the power goes out, but we just keep the doors open and wait for it to come back. We sell mostly basic stuff that people need for their daily lives. We are quite friendly with the other shopkeepers on the street. We often borrow small change from each other when we run out. It is a noisy area with all the taxis and people, but we are used to it. The shop is small, so we stack our inventory quite high up on the shelves. I am always worried something might fall, but it hasn't happened yet. Many of our customers have been coming here for a long time, back when my uncle was still in charge. Now we just keep it going as best as we can every day.
