Eros Fashion operates out of a small lane in North Kolkata. Our address is 9A, Baishnab Seth 1St Lane, which is one of those typical old Kolkata streets where everyone knows everyone else. It can be a bit hard to find if you aren't looking closely, but once you’re inside, it’s all business. We have rolls of cloth stacked up in the corners and patterns pinned to the walls. It’s a private limited company but it feels more like a family shop because most of us have been working together for years. We aren't big on decorations or anything like that. The floors are concrete and the windows are usually open to let some air in while we work. We handle a lot of fashion-related tasks, mostly getting garments ready and checking them over. Some days are very long, especially when we have a big batch to finish, but we manage. There’s a tea stall at the end of the lane where we go for breaks. It’s a lot of manual work and paying attention to small details. We don't have a website that we update or anything flashy. We just do our work here in the lane and send things out to the markets. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening. The neighborhood is loud but we are used to it by now. We try to keep our deliveries on time despite the heavy traffic in this part of town.
