We are based at 78 N.K. Ghosal Road in the Kasba area of Kolkata. If you know Kolkata, you know that Kasba is a busy, crowded place with a lot of energy. Our office is Erm Placement Services, and we spend our time trying to help people find jobs and helping companies find staff. The building we are in is quite old, like many in this part of the city, and the stairs are a bit narrow. Inside, we have desks piled with resumes and notebooks. The city is often loud and humid, so our office is a bit of a refuge from the street noise, though you can still hear the taxis honking outside. We do not have a human resources department or a PR team. It is just us, a small group of people who know how hard it is to find good work in this city. We spend our lunch breaks eating local food from the stalls nearby and then get back to our phones. The work is mostly about talking to people and trying to match their skills with what employers are looking for. We do not make big promises or use fancy language. We just look at the facts and see what we can do. It is a very typical Kolkata office—a bit cluttered, very busy, and full of people just trying to get through their workday.
