Discreet Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd.

Our office is at 59/J on Jainuddin Mistry Lane in Kolkata. If you know that part of town, you know the streets are narrow and always full of life. It is an old building that we have been using for Discreet Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd. for a long time. The stairs are a bit steep and the rooms have high ceilings. We have maps and site plans pinned up all over the walls. There is usually a layer of dust on everything from the construction sites we manage. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers or trying to find where a truck has got stuck in traffic. Kolkata is a tough city to move around in, so we do a lot of our coordination from this small room. We have a few old wooden desks and some filing cabinets that are bulging with old records. It is not a modern workspace with glass walls. It feels like a real builder’s office. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the current projects. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to get any work done outside, so we all end up huddled in here. We are just a group of people trying to build things properly. We do not use big words or have fancy presentations. We just show up and do the work that needs doing. We stay until the light goes and then we come back the next day.
