Out here on Neogipara Road in Baranagar, things stay pretty busy. We are at number 109, which is a familiar spot for anyone who has lived in this part of Kolkata for a while. Development Consultants Pvt Ltd is the name on the door, but most people just know us as the consulting guys. The office isn't anything special to look at. It has got that old-school feel with heavy desks and a lot of cabinets filled with site plans. We do a lot of work related to local infrastructure and private developments. A typical day involves a lot of marking up drawings with red pens and arguing over small technical details. We don't have a marketing department or anyone to answer the phones with a script. If you call, you just get one of us. We spend a good amount of time out of the office too, visiting different sites across the city to make sure what is on paper matches what is on the ground. The road outside can get quite noisy, but inside we just focus on the work. It is a straightforward business. We provide the technical advice people need for their projects without making it complicated. Most of our clients come to us because they need someone who knows the local area and the rules. We just show up every morning and get through the pile of work on our desks. There is always plenty to do.
