Das Rice Bhander

If you head down to South Shripur in Boral, you’ll find us at Das Rice Bhander. It’s a local shop, not a big supermarket or anything like that. We mostly deal with big sacks of rice that come in from the mills. The place smells like grain and burlap, which is a smell I’ve grown used to over the years. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions or moving heavy bags around for the customers who come by. It’s a neighborhood spot. Most of the people who buy from us live just a few streets away. They know us, and we know what kind of rice they like for their dinner. We don't have a website or fancy posters. Just the shop and the rice. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to keep everything dry, so we have to move things quickly when the clouds turn grey. It's a lot of physical work, lifting and carrying, but it keeps us busy. My family has been doing this for a bit, and we don't plan on changing much. We just want to make sure the bags are full and the quality is okay for the price. On slow afternoons, we just sit near the door and watch the traffic go by in Boral. It’s a quiet life, really. We just try to keep enough stock so nobody goes home empty-handed when they need their rice.
