Burn Standard Co. Ltd. has this office over at 128/1 Motijheel Avenue, right inside Omkar Apartment. It’s in Dum Dum, so it’s fairly easy to find if you’re coming from the main part of Kolkata. The building is a typical residential-commercial mix, so you might see neighbors drying clothes or kids playing while we are trying to finish up the spreadsheets. Being in an apartment means it feels a bit more like a home than a stiff office. We have a couple of rooms set up with desks and enough chairs for everyone. Sometimes the elevator in Omkar Apartment acts up, so we end up taking the stairs, which is okay for a little exercise. The pin code is 700074 if you are sending anything by post. We spend a lot of time on the phones and looking at the computer screens. It’s a bit cramped when we have a full house, but we manage fine. There is a small window that looks out onto the street, though there isn’t much to see besides the usual city traffic and the occasional street vendor. We drink a lot of water because it gets stuffy in the afternoons. It is a practical space for what we need to do. No one here wears a suit unless there’s a very specific reason.
