Basir Engg Works

Basir Engg Works is tucked away in Belddanga, specifically in the Jote Shibrampur area of Maheshtala. It is the kind of place where you will always find a bit of grease on the floor and the smell of cut metal in the air. We spend most of our hours here surrounded by various machines and tools that have seen better days but still do the job. Maheshtala can get quite dusty, especially when the trucks go past, so we are always wiping down the workbenches. The shop is not very big, and it gets pretty hot during the summer months, but we have a few old fans that keep the air moving a little bit. Most of the guys who work here live nearby, so there is a lot of local talk about the neighborhood while we work. We usually start quite early before the sun gets too high. There is always some scrap metal piled up in the corner waiting to be moved. It is noisy because of the hammers and the drills, so you have to raise your voice to be heard. We do not have a fancy office or anywhere comfortable to sit, just a few stools and a lot of equipment. It is a gritty, hardworking environment where things actually get made or fixed by hand. People know us by the sound of the shop long before they see the sign.
