Being located in Kolkata means there is always a lot of noise and people moving around outside. We are right in the middle of it all. Our place isn’t huge but we make it work for what we need. Most days start early for us before the sun gets too hot and the streets get too crowded. We have piles of fabric that need to be sorted and cut every single morning. It’s a lot of manual labor. We don’t have a big corporate structure or managers in suits here. It’s just us. Someone handles the cutting, another person does the stitching, and someone else packs it all up into bags. We know the rhythm of the city well. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait or talk for a bit. It’s just part of life here. We don’t try to be something we aren’t. We just make clothes for people. Some customers want complicated designs and some just want simple stuff. We do both. Kolkata is a place where you have to be a bit tough to get things done. We’ve learned how to deal with the logistics and the heat over the years. The workshop is always full of different colors and threads. It’s messy but we are productive. We don’t have a fancy website. Most people find us through word of mouth. That’s how we like it. It keeps things real.
