This business is run right from 8, Bijoy Basu Road. It’s a quiet enough street most days, though you get the occasional vendor shouting out their goods. Apan Kumar Basu isn’t a company with hundreds of employees. It’s a more personal operation. I handle most of the things myself, with a little help here and there. Looking out from the room where I work, I can see who’s coming and going on the street below. This has been my base for a long time. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Following a strict corporate schedule isn't really my thing. Sometimes I stay late because the work needs doing, and other times I take a long break if things are slow. There’s no big sign out front, just the house number. Most people who need my services know exactly where to find me. Building those long-term relationships over years of being in the same spot is what matters. My old computer and a stack of notebooks are all I need to keep track of everything. I don’t see the point in spending money on fancy things when the old ones still work fine. People appreciate the direct way I do things. No fluff, no complicated talk, just honest work from a small office on Bijoy Basu Road. That’s just the way it is here. I like the pace of things and the way I can manage my own time.
