Anna Engineering Constuction Co is located at 53 Madan Mohan Burman Street in Kolkata. It is right in the thick of things in West Bengal. The office is in one of those old buildings that has seen a lot of history. We mostly spend our time looking at blueprints and arguing over supply costs. Construction is a messy business, and even though we are in an office here, the dust from the street always finds its way in. We deal with a lot of different projects, so there is always someone coming in to drop off samples or pick up payments. The tea shop around the corner is basically our second meeting room. It gets very busy on this street, and finding a place to park is almost impossible, so we usually just walk or take the rickshaw. We aren’t a giant firm with hundreds of people; we are just a small team trying to make sure our sites have what they need. Some days the paperwork feels like it will never end, but that is part of the job. We have been doing this for a good while now and know the local suppliers pretty well. It is a lot of back-and-forth communication and making sure the workers at the sites are doing okay. It’s practical, everyday work that keeps us on our toes.
