Alisha Garments

Alisha Garments is right on College Street, near the M.G. Road crossing in Kolkata. If you know that area, you know how packed it gets with students and bookshops. We are at number 76. It’s an old building, like most things in this part of town. The stairs are a bit steep and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it has character. We’ve been here for years, watching the trams go by. Inside, it’s mostly stacks of clothes and some old wooden counters. It’s a family-run thing. My uncle started it, and now we all help out. We don't bother with fancy displays. People come in, look through the piles, and find what fits. It’s honest work. The noise from the street is always there, but you get used to it after a week. We drink a lot of chai and talk to the neighbors between customers. It’s not a big corporate store with air conditioning that freezes you out. It’s just a regular Kolkata shop. We try to keep the prices fair because we know our customers aren't looking to spend a fortune. It’s a busy, dusty, and lively place to work. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else, really. It’s just how we do things here on College Street and we've been doing it a long time now.
