Our work happens at 153/5, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, right in a very lively section of Kolkata. If you know APC Road, you know it is always humming with people and buses going everywhere. Our office is a practical space where we spend most of our daylight hours. We are a small group of chartered accountants and assistants who have been together for quite some time. The office is full of metal filing cabinets and desks that have seen better days, but they serve their purpose well enough. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because we are mostly focused on getting the tax returns and audits finished on time. Most days involve a lot of phone calls and squinting at spreadsheets. Sometimes we take a break to grab some tea from the stall downstairs, which helps when the workload gets heavy. We have a lot of regulars who have been coming to us for their accounting needs for over a decade. They know the way up the stairs and where to sit. We try to keep things simple and honest. If a calculation is tricky, we sit down and hammer it out until it makes sense. It isn't a high-pressure corporate environment, just a place where we do our jobs and try to stay organized. The city noise is a constant companion, but we wouldn’t know how to work without it at this point. It is just a regular office where we do our best with the numbers.
