Chandney Chowk Street is never quiet, and our place at number 8 is right in the middle of all that noise. You can hear the carts rattling over the pavement and people shouting from the shops next door all day long. A. L. S. Jamalmohamed Co. has been part of this street for a long time. The office is tucked away, and you have to dodge a few delivery bikes just to get through the door. It’s a bit cramped inside, especially when a big shipment arrives and there’s nowhere to put your feet. We don’t have any of those fancy modern glass partitions. It’s mostly wood and old stone. The light coming through the front window is always a bit dusty, showing all the little particles floating in the air. We spend our time dealing with suppliers and trying to keep track of every little detail. It’s easy to lose things in the shuffle, so we have to be careful. Lunch is usually something quick brought in from one of the stalls nearby. You get used to the smell of spices and exhaust fumes mixing together. It’s a busy life here, and there isn't much time for sitting around. When the sun starts to set, the street actually gets busier, but that’s when we usually start winding down and locking up the heavy front gates for the night.
