Located in Vishrambag, Sarasswati Classes is a small part of the community here in Sangli. We’ve stayed in this neighborhood because it’s where we feel most at home. The classrooms are simple, with rows of wooden benches that have seen many different students over the years. Some of those benches have names scratched into them from long ago, which we don’t mind too much. It’s a lived-in space. We don’t use any high-tech gadgets or expensive software; it’s mostly just us, some paper, and the students' textbooks. In the rainy season, the dampness gets into the air, but we just keep the windows shut and carry on. We aren't trying to be the biggest or the most famous place in town. We just want to make sure that when a student walks in, they have a quiet spot to learn. We often see former students walking around the neighborhood, now grown up and working, and they usually give us a nod or a wave. It makes the long hours feel worth it. The daily grind involves a lot of reading and checking notebooks, and sometimes our eyes get tired by the end of the night. But there’s a satisfaction in seeing the lights on in the classrooms and knowing that we’re doing something useful. It’s just a normal, everyday business running in a normal, everyday part of Sangli. We keep things simple and honest.
