Aamhi Chandgadi Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited is a group of women farmers from Kanur Kh. We work out of G.P. No. 255. Chandgad is a beautiful place to live, but the farming work is never ending and often quite difficult. Most of us have been out in the fields alongside our parents and then our husbands for as long as we can remember. We decided to start this company so we could have more control over how our crops are sold and what price we get. It’s really about looking out for one another. If someone’s crop is struggling, there is always another member ready to offer advice or a hand. We deal with everything from rice to whatever vegetables are in season. Our office is just a simple little space in the village where we gather in the afternoons. We spend that time talking about market rates in Kolhapur and who has a truck ready to go. It isn't just about the money, though that obviously matters. It’s about the fact that we aren't doing this alone anymore. We handle the seed buying and the negotiations with traders ourselves now. It is a big responsibility, but we are used to hard work. These hills are our home, and we know the land better than anyone else. We just want to keep things stable for the next generation.
