Penna Cement

Setting up Penna Cement here at Willingdon Island has its own set of things to deal with. We are right by the Naval Base Parade Ground, and being opposite the Ernakulam Wharf means there is always something moving around. You can smell the salt from the water most of the time, and the wind can get pretty strong coming off the wharf. Our spot is basically just a place to keep the cement until it needs to go somewhere else. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and moving bags around, which keeps everyone busy. The trucks coming in and out of the island can get backed up sometimes, especially when the ships are being unloaded across the way. It’s not the quietest place to work, what with the cranes and the parade ground nearby, but you get used to the rhythm of it. We don't have a fancy office or anything, just what we need to get the job done. Most of the people we see are drivers or guys working at the docks. It feels like a very industrial kind of life, which fits what we do I suppose. We’ve been at this location for a while now and know the area pretty well. It’s just a straightforward operation here on the island, nothing too fancy to look at, just plenty of cement and hard work every day. I guess that's just the way it goes here.
