St Joseph Cement Works

Started out here in Vadakumabram P.O. quite a few years back now. It is a bit dusty most days, which you expect when you deal with cement for a living. The yard gets busy early in the morning when the trucks start rolling in. Usually, I'm the first one here turning on the lights and making sure the bags are stacked right. We have a small crew and we mostly just get on with the work. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially when it rains hard and we have to cover everything up fast. The floors are always grey from the fine powder that gets everywhere. We just keep our heads down and fill the orders as they come. People know where we are, right near the post office. It’s not a fancy setup, just a lot of heavy lifting and moving stuff around. My back hurts a bit by the end of the day but that is just how it is. We try to keep things organized but sometimes it gets messy when multiple loads arrive at once. We’ve been at this address for a long time and the neighborhood hasn't changed much, just more traffic on the main road. The machine makes a specific humming sound that I don’t even notice anymore until it stops. If you come by, you’ll likely see us covered in dust near the loading bay. That's just a normal day for us at St Joseph Cement Works.
