Whitefield Marbles

Our place, Whitefield Marbles, is situated right on Makrana Road in Madanganj. We are really close to the Drom Diamond building, which is a big landmark people use to find us. This whole area is basically nothing but marble shops and big trucks, so we fit right in. We spend most of the day out in the yard or near the entrance. It is a busy road, and there is always some noise from the traffic. We don't go for anything fancy; we just have our slabs lined up and a small space to sit down. Most people who come by are just looking for something specific for their floors or walls. We’ve seen the market change over the years, but we just keep doing what we know. It’s a lot of lifting and measuring, and the sun can be pretty harsh on the stone. We don’t have a big marketing plan or anything. We just talk to the drivers and the customers who pull over. Madanganj is a tough place to work because of all the dust, but it is home for us. We just try to keep our head down and work through the orders as they come. There is always a layer of white dust on the floor, and you just get used to having it on your clothes too. It's not the kind of place where you wear a suit. We just wear what's comfortable for a long day of work.
