Rakesh Marbles

Tunkra Road is where we have set up Rakesh Marbles, not far from the main Marble Mandi in Madanganj. It is a bit of a dusty stretch of road, but it’s home to us and our work. We’ve spent years getting the yard to look the way it does, with everything sorted into piles that make sense to us even if they look a bit messy to an outsider. We get a lot of people coming by who are just starting to build their homes and they aren't quite sure what they need for their floors. We just show them what we have on the ground and let the stone speak for itself. There aren't any glossy brochures or sales pitches here. Most of our day is spent making sure the loading cranes are working and that the slabs are safe for transport. It’s a hands-on kind of business. My father started things here, and I just keep it going the same way he did, with a focus on doing the work right and being fair to the people we deal with. We know the other shop owners on Tunkra Road and we often help each other out if a truck gets stuck or if someone needs an extra hand with a heavy load. It’s a tight-knit place despite all the dust and the loud machinery. If you find yourself near the mandi, just head down Tunkra and you will find our gate. We usually have someone there from dawn till dusk.
