Our company is located at 20/729, Vedhachalapuram, right in the Thogaimalai area of Kulithalai Talu. We call ourselves Solidarity Farmers Producer Company Limited. The name "Solidarity" was chosen because that’s exactly what we are—a bunch of farmers standing together. In this part of the country, it's easy to feel like you're on your own when the harvest is bad or the prices drop. So, we decided to group up. We’re not some big organization from the city. We’re just neighbors who have known each other for years. Our office in Vedhachalapuram is where we gather to figure out what to plant and how to sell it. It’s usually full of people talking at once and drinking tea. We deal with the typical crops you see around Thogaimalai. It’s hard work and the sun is brutal most of the time. We don't have any fancy technology or expensive consultants. We just use what we’ve learned from our parents and try to adapt a little bit. Sometimes we disagree on things, but we always figure it out because we have to. Being a producer company lets us buy things in bulk which saves us a few rupees. Every little bit helps when you're living off the land. We aren't trying to change the world, we're just trying to make sure the farmers in our little corner of Kulithalai can keep their heads above water. It’s just plain, honest work that we do together.
