Our group, Laxmanchanda Turmeric Farmers Producer Company Limited, is based out in Kuchanpalli at address 1-81. This is a place where turmeric is a big part of life. We are basically a bunch of farmers who decided it was better to work together than to try and do everything alone. Growing turmeric is a long process and it involves a lot of digging in the dirt and waiting for the right weather. Around Kuchanpalli, the soil works well for this crop, so that’s what we focus on. We don't have a big corporate headquarters; it’s just a spot where we gather to talk about the harvest and how to get the produce to the market. Some days it is just about fixing the equipment or checking on the drying beds. It isn't always easy because prices fluctuate and sometimes the rain doesn't come when you want it to. We try to help each other out with those things. It’s a simple life mostly centered around the seasons. When the harvest time comes, everyone is busy from dawn until late at night. We just wanted a way to make sure the people growing the spice actually get a fair shake. It’s about the land and the roots we pull out of it every year. We are just local people doing what we know how to do best in our own backyard.
