Vandana Flour Mill is just a regular spot near the Chakarpur Mandi in Sachendi. We spend most of our days covered in a thin layer of white dust because that is just how it goes when you are grinding grain all day long. The machines make a lot of noise, but after a while, you don't even hear it anymore. People from the nearby farms and the Mandi come by with their sacks of wheat, and we get to work. It is a simple life here. We don't have fancy office chairs or air conditioning that works all the time. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside and wait for it to come back. The air smells like fresh flour, which is a good smell once you get used to it. We just focus on getting the grinding done right so people can take their bags home and make their bread. Sachendi is a busy place, especially in the mornings when the trucks are moving, but we just stay in our corner and keep the mill running. There is always a lot of cleaning to do at the end of the shift because the flour gets into every little crack in the floor. It is hard work, and your back might ache by evening, but it is what we know how to do. We have been here for a while now, and most of the locals know where to find us. We just keep our heads down and work.
