Jaypee Cement

Our shop is at 21/79 in Etawa Bazar, right in the thick of Kanpur. If you’ve ever been to the bazaar, you know how crowded and loud it gets. We are right there in the middle of it. We sell cement to all sorts of people, from big contractors to a guy just fixing a wall at home. The space is quite narrow, as is common in this part of town, so we have to stack the bags high. It’s a lot of physical work moving those bags around all day. The air is always a bit thick with dust from the street and the cement itself. We have a small counter where we sit and talk to customers. There’s usually a lot of tea drinking and chatting while we wait for the trucks to navigate the narrow streets. Kanpur is a busy city, and Etawa Bazar is one of its busiest spots. We’ve been here for a long time and we know the rhythms of the market. We don't use any high-tech gadgets to run things. It’s just us, our receipts, and the phone. Sometimes the noise from the street is so loud we have to shout to be heard over the horns and the shouting. But it’s home for us. We just keep the doors open and wait for the next customer to walk in. We don't mind the chaos too much anymore.
